MinebeaMitsumi's integrated mold sensing system is capable of simple, low-cost measurements, management, and recording of "cavity pressure waveforms" and "cavity temperature waveforms" that are key parameters directly related to molded product quality.

Determination function and analog voltage output can also operate with stand-alone amplifiers.
PCs not required other than for initial setup when used for mass production.

Measurement principle

The force pushing out E-pin is measured with the cavity pressure force, and the
pressure value is converted and calculated from the set E-pin tip area. The only processing required for the mold is making grooves in the ejector plate.

    Based on a thermocouple-type with the sensor is installed near the cavity or at a position where the tip is exposed to the cavity, to dynamically detect temperature changes corresponding to resin behavior.
    The sensor has a small φ1 tip diameter and can even be installed on small measurement targets.

    Storing the relay box and sensor cable within the mold reduces the risk of sensor cable breakages when molds are raised or lowered from molding machines.

Can pressure waveforms be transmitted to the molding machine side?
Analog voltages are output from the amplifier.
If molding machines have a function to input this value, the waveform can be transmitted to molding machines.
Is actual cavity pressure monitoring performed at multiple locations on the mold? Can the set target be controlled for each location?
For multiple installations, sensors are to be installed at the same location of each cavity. The reference cavity waveform is set as the target, and an area to monitor is configured to perform balancing and pass/fail judgment for each cavity.
Is there a rough estimate of how many load cells are needed for molded products, despite this likely depending on the size of the molded product?
There is no single answer as this depends on the size of the product, but in many cases an ejector pin is mounted in areas prone to shorts. When used for determining conditions or other purposes, checking for correlation first is recommended by installing pins near the gate or near the opposite gate.
Is coordination with molding machines possible after defects are detected with the cavity pressure sensor?
An external alarm signal is output when a defect is detected, which can be linked with molding machines or unloaders.
Are products other than cavity pressure sensors available that can be installed on injection molding machines?
A compact type metal detector* is available to inspect molded products for the presence of metalic foreign object.
